The prosecutor’s office started a pre-trial procedure after the outrage against a crew of Kanal 3. Plamen Petrov, Tihomir Georgiev and Radoslav Pavlov lodged a complaint against Georgi Georgiev who attacked them during their investigation on the activity and funds of his NGO “BOEC”. Our appeal was addressed to all competent authorities – including the Parliament, the president and the prime-minister.
The prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov personally wrote a letter in which he gives information about the procedure and the reached stage. It says that
"Georgi Georgiev misbehaved in a way that disturbed the peace and expressed disrespect to the society as he punched Tihomir Georgiev in the head and hit Plamen Petrov in the groin. At the same time he did physical injuries to more than one person in public”.
Three of our colleagues visited Vidin for an investigation on the activity and funds of the NGO “BOEC”. They were seatching for answers on the following questions: How is it possible that 447 leva are enough for the organization of expensive events? Why aren’t its incomes and expenses for the couple last years declared? Our colleagues waited for Georgi Georgiev on a public place – in front of his office in Vidin, where we received no answers, but offences and threats. Contacting the police was his try to limit the freedom of speech and to stop our investigation.
As Georgi Georgiev was quite nervous because of our investigation, he attacked our colleagues. Meanwhile he was using his wife as a precondition for his anger. This is why we from Kanal 3 brought an appeal to all competent authorities. The Association of the Bulgarian radio and TV operators, the Union of the Bulgarian Journalists and the Association of the European journalists blamed the outrage against journalists.
