The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) voted for his candidature for a second time and the result was exactly the same: 20 members of the SJC supported him while other 4 of them did not.
More than 5 hours after their meeting began, 20 of the members of the SJC voted in support of Ivan Geshev while 4 voted against him, which was enough to make him the next Prosecutor General.
This was necessary after the president Rumen Radev decided not to sign the decree for assigning Ivan Geshev as the heir of Sotir Tsatsarov as a Prosecutor General. The result from the first meeting’ vote was exactly the same: 20 votes in favour of Geshev and 4 against his candidature.
"I am thankful to all the members of the SJC and my colleagues who supported me” – these were the first words of Geshev after he was officially elected for the next Prosecutor General.
"I promise I will do whatever is possible in order not to betray your trust. Thank you for not being susceptible to the unprecedented political pressure and choosing in a professional manner instead, abiding by the Bulgarian Contistution”, continued Geshev.
The law says that the president does not have the right to refuse signing the decree for a second time.
Meanwhile, hours before and in the beginning of the victim there were two anonymous signals sent to the police for bombs in the same building.
