It’s natural to give a helping hand to our neighbor Pernik municipality because no one has the guarantees that this cannot happen. We should help each other but not if the people in Sofia “pay” for that. I need a 100-percent-guarantee for the water in Sofia, said the mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
„The Sofia Municipal Council will make the final decision after the Government sends their final decision. We expect that this will happen in Thursday. We will get acquainted with the text carefully. I asked for the report of the experts in Sofiyska voda in order to guarantee that this will have no effect to the water supply in Sofia”, continued the mayor.
Fandakova stated that she also tabled for discussion the question about the wall of Beli Iskar dam. „I expect that the projects for the repair of the dam are ready as soon as possible while the water is in the reservoir. But I need full guarantees that the maximum safety capacity of the dam will not be overloaded. Furthermore, I want it to be less than the maximum each moment and the experts assured me that is absolutely possible”, continued the mayor of Sofia. She also mentioned the Rila water-main and the possibility of damages to it. “No matter if we provide Pernik with additional quantity of water – 2 or 3 accidents happen every year. The experts assured me that the whole capacity of the dam is capable of bare the help needed by the city”, said Fandakova.
The idea rose on Saturday when the government offered that the water crisis is resolved by supplying water from Belmeken dam to Pernik through the water-carrying system of Sofia. Therefore we will build a new water-carrying system and a pumping system, costing BGN 25 million. The water will go through the water-carrying system of Sofia by a bypass system. It will be build from Malo Butchino to the Pernik district “Iztok”. The new water-carrying system will build for 35-45 days and the government will pay a tax to Sofia municipality for the water passage through its system.
