"The president had every right to put a veto on that part of the law. In my opinion the army should be used in current situations – but only due to its competences”, said the Minister of Interior Mladen Marinov.
Examples of that could be joint patrols with the police or guarding sites together. The army should be subordinate to the Ministry of Interior as it’s the major force to observe the peace among the society, added Marinov.
In his words the army isn’t needed in the current situation, but will be needed when the Ministry of Interior is out of its own resources.
The Ministry of Interior has the control over the compliance of the 14-day quarantine. There are 100 pre-trial proceedings for non-compliance. The sanction includes 5 years of imprisonment and 10 to 50 thousand leva penalty.
Mladen Marinov also said that tightening the rules on the borders of districts takes time. Less time cross those improvised checkpoints.
He also mentioned a positive example of how the measures against COVID-19 work – there are less domestic crimes.
