The Prime-Minister Boyko Borissov was present during the way for the supercomputer building was paved in Sofia Tech Park. Among the guests were also the Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov, the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov, the European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, the Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova, and partnership organizations.
"We were so underdeveloped, but look at us today – we are among the leaders not only on the Balkan, but also in our part of Europe. There are only 5 such supercomputers. Everyone in the world knows of the qualities of Bulgarian people. When the economy gets better, people will come back in Bulgaria”, continued the PM.
In his opinion the supercomputer will be a good opportunity for innovation, automobiles and science.
"This supercomputer can be used for anything. It can solve billion of problems, operations, conclusions”, added Borissov. In his words such projects are going to be helpful for the future generations.
"We managed dealing with so much competition – not only in the Balkans, but in the whole EU. We have worked so hard. And we invested BGN 16 million. So we are proud of the results”, continued Boyko Borissov.
Bulgaria was a winner with 8 other competitors in a procedure made by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. 8 supercomputers will be placed in 8 different places. And Bulgaria will turn to the digital hub in the region. The supercomputer will be ready to work until the end of February, 2021.
The state has invested in the project EUR 12 million. The amount of money includes also the expenses for the first 5 years of exploitation. The whole project is in the amount of EUR 18 million.
