"The Prosecution is a subject of all kinds of attacks and insults. Sadly, the price is paid by our families. They call us “mafia” and here is the reason why – we bring light into the darkness with actions instead of only words. They call us “mafia” because we showed that we would not allow double standards – one type of actions against billionaires and people with influence in fields such as politics and media; and other – for the rest of the people. They call us ‘’mafia” because we ended the phone frauds and reduced the number of thefts and robberies. We will not stop working”, Geshev pointed out.
BGN 3 billion were kept idle on the demand of the Prosecutor’s Office, not including the cases widely spread by the media, added Ivan Geshev. He also said that there are people who are hiding abroad thinking that the laws aren’t the same for them and therefore they could do whatever they like.
"We are here together to state that we are working together – prosecutors, investigators and judicial workers. As the 16th US President Abraham Lincoln - “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward. So do we. It is an honor for me to be part of that and to be the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria”, Ivan Geshev continued.
The meeting was attended by MPs, MEPs, the Minister of Interior Hristo
Terziyski, the Minister of Justice Danail Kirilov, members of the Supreme Judicial Council including their representative Boyan Magdalinchev, the former Prosecutor General Nikola Filchev and diplomats.
The Prosecutors’ National Conference in Boyana Residence was held to defend the independence of the Prosecutor’s Office.
