GERB initiated the discussions with all other political parties represented in the Parliament concerning their idea for amendments in the Constitution.
The aim of such debates is to convince at least 121 MPs to sign for the submission of the draft.
First GERB will discuss their draft with their coalition partners – VMRO and NFSB. There will be consultations with the independent MPs as well.
The Chairperson of the Parliamentary group of GERB Daniela Daritkova, the Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly Tsveta Karayancheva and the MP Menda Stoyanova are going to participate in the discussions on the behalf of GERB.
MPs are going to start the process of signing for the submission of the draft of a new Constitution next week.
The majority in the National Assembly consists of 116 MPs so GERB is going to search for support amongst the other political parties and independent MPs.
It is already clear that the Bulgarian Socialist Party will not participate in consultations on a new Constitution. In their opinion the current National Assembly is already exhausted and the restart of the current political reality means that the government should resign.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms has not yet announced whether they will participate in the consultations initiated by GERB. Their answer is expected in the beginning of September.
