“Each principal or teacher can decide whether the students are supposed to wear masks in the classroom”, the Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev pointed out in an interview for NOVA TV.
„We participated in several discussions about the learning methods during the summer. Most of the experts pointed out that it is impossible for the younger students to wear masks in the classrooms. Next week we will decide whether the measure becomes mandatory”, the Minister continued. He added that the number of infected children is way smaller from 1st to 4th grade. “Today 44% of the children studied from the desks at their homes, while yesterday the percentage was smaller – around 39%”, Valchev continued. In his opinion it is important that the online education doesn’t last until the end of 2020. “After 3 weeks at home some of the students will run into psychological issues, others will become less social, etc. So our idea is that online learning should be alternated with face-to-face classes.
"In January and February, there will probably be 2-3 weeks when flu viruses are expected, so students will probably study at their homes", Krassimir Valchev suggested.
He announced that there is no option to reduce the summer vacation. "We aren’t in a discussion for extending the winter vacation as well", the Minister of Education added.
