"I congratulate my colleagues from the Western Balkans who signed the Green Agenda Declaration. I am also thankful that they act in a European way having environmental issues in mind”, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during the joint statements with the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zaev within the Berlin Summit.
Earlier today at the Sofia Summit the Western Balkan countries signed two declarations which are another step towards their accession to the EU. "All member states have firmly adopted a plan until 2050 to reduce harmful emissions", the Bulgarian PM reminded and shared his gratitude toward the Western Balkans for acting in line with European policies. "The other declaration - for a Common Regional Market - is another idea, another dream of ours. Thus, the population of the Western Balkans will achieve much higher incomes and we will keep it in the region", Borissov continued. He expressed his special gratitude to the Chancellor Merkel for putting trust in Bulgaria for being a co-host at the Berlin Summit.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel pointed out that this is the first time the Berlin Summit is hosted by an EU member state and a country that wants to become one. "My congratulations regarding your progress concerning the Single Regional Market", she added and pointed out that as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the economies are under pressure. “But the measures taken today will give a boost that will benefit the people in the region", the German chancellor continued.
Zoran Zaev – the Prime Minister of the Republic of Northern Macedonia – stressed that the Berlin Summit will contribute to stronger co-operation in the region.
