The European leaders reached an agreement on the multiannual budget of the EU for the next 7 years and the plan for recovery of the COVID-19 crisis. The deal took almost 5 days and was on the way to set up a record for the length of the negotiations.
"Bulgaria is getting EUR 29 billion in the next 7 years. We are one of the few countries which will receive almost EUR 2 billion from the new budget", pointed out the PM Boyko Borissov.
''That is why I deserve to hear people demanding my resignation'', he said sarcastically, referring to the ongoing protests calling for the resignation of his government. “And this given that the total amount of the new multiannual financial framework is EUR 62 billion – less than the current one", Prime Minister Borissov added.
European Council President Charles Michel announced the news on Twitter with the word “deal”. The French President Emmanuel Macron defined the agreement as a “historical day for the European Union”.
The Multiannual Financial Framework or the budget of the EU for 2021-2027 is at the total amount of EUR 1.074 trillion. The Next Generation EU Package for recovery is at the total amount of EUR 750 billion, EUR 390 billion of which – subsidies and EUR 360 billion – loans.
